Darlna Piilani Morgan, 73, of Waipahu, Hawai‘i, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Pali Momi Medical Center surrounded by family and friends. A celebration of her life service will be held on April 11, Thursday, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the O‘ahu Mortuary Church, 2162 Nuuanu Avenue, Honolulu, Hawaii 96817. On September 13, 1945, a beautiful baby, Darlna Piilani Morgan, was born to Julian Francis Morgan (aka Jack Morgan) and Mary Magdalen Kaholokahiki Morgan. She grew up in Punchbowl, O‘ahu Hawai‘i and on Guam. She attended the Royal School and then Kamehameha Schools. After graduating from Kamehameha Schools in 1963, she worked for the Pacific Air Forces as a secretary for a short while. Most of her life in Hawai‘i and on Guam were spent farming and raising game cocks. She is known as the Queen of the cockfights on O’ahu, having carried on this centuries old cultural spectator sport. People from far and wide respected her knowledge and acumen of this sport. Piilani enjoyed socializing with friends, playing cards, and gambling. She was an avid football fan. She was mathematically sharp and very intuitive…so much so, that she often outbest her brother and sister in their weekly quarter poker games in the last couple of years and winning online poker tournaments, a favorite pastime in the last few years. She cherished times spent with her children, Jack Jay Morgan, Joaquin “Kindo” Morgan; and Kristie Puanani Hernandez. She is also survived by her brother, Wayne Dexter Dickson and sister, Marilyn Leimomi Khan,; grandchildren, Nicholas Scott Keali‘i Saccomanno; Lei Marie Piilani Morgan Gacho; Justin Keali‘i Morgan Gacho, and Jemmerson Pohaku Morgan Gacho; many cousins, nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Jack Morgan; sisters, Barbara Hasegawa and Abigail Georgiana Morgan; and brother, Donovan Suinn. Piilani was a loving, kind and generous daughter, sister, mother and friend, who always helped others. Her physical beauty, strength and endurance were powered by an indomitable spirit. She loved sports, especially football games, and being outdoors on her farm. She has left an indelible mark on all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
