Earl Lee Chang

November 22, 1931 - April 6, 2022

Earl Lee Chang passed away at the age of 90 at his home in Honolulu, Hawaii on April 6, 2022 with his wife, Karin Chang, at his side. Earl was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on November 22, 1931. Earl served in the United States Army for twenty-one years. He served overseas in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. After his retirement from the US Army, Earl found his skill in fleet sales at Honolulu Ford and later moved on to Cutter Ford, where he met lifelong friends. Earl loved to travel with his wife, Karin, to places near and far. He often visited his daughter in San Francisco, his wife’s family in Germany, and other destinations around the world. Earl loved his weekly racquetball games with his good friend. As his eyesight got worse and his body slowed down, he had to give up his favorite game with one of his favorite people. Earl also loved a good meal with good company. He had a quick sense of humor and always made visitors to his home fill welcome and well fed. He often reminded his children to “stay humble” and be grateful for what you have which helped to pave their way in life. Earl’s legacy of teaching his children to “stay humble” lives on. His beloved mother, Hazel Yuk Moy Lee, and his stepson, Ike Bulay, preceded Earl in passing. His children Jade Thomas (Tyrone) and Michelle Chang (Collin Wong), and his grandchildren Donny Thomas, Cody Thomas, Adriana Bulay, and Kealani Wong survive him. Services will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl on June 7 at 10:30 am. A luncheon in Earl Chang’s honor will be held after the services at one of his favorite Chinese restaurants in Honolulu.
