July 29, 1986 - February 3, 2021
Jose Miguel Rodriguez went home to the Lord on Wednesday, February 3, 2021. Jose was born on July 29, 1986 in Cuidad Juarez, Mexico where he spent the first few years of his life with his loving mother and her family. They later on moved to Gallup, New Mexico and then to Santa Maria, California where he spent most of his life and later gained his one and only loving brother, Paul. Jose had many nicknames and many were fortunate to have interacted with him throughout his life. Each nickname was unique and represented his bright and energetic spirit and personality. Jose had a love for cars; particularly big trucks. He started his career as a tire technician for Wal-Mart Stores Inc. where he was later promoted to lead mechanic. Most of his life was spent under a car or truck doing an oil change, rebuilding an engine or enhancing the look of trucks by adding lifts and hand selected rims and tires. Hawaii was the final stop for Jose and it was there that he found what he was looking for: the easy-going island life that made him never want to leave. On July 31, 2006, Jose welcomed his one and only daughter Alicia-Leilani Ann into the world. She was his pride and joy and he spent every day after her birth being her father and teaching her too about cars. Their favorite thing to do together was go on beach cruises where he would let her “drive him” around. Jose managed to bring a smile to everyone he encountered. He enjoyed being the light of the room: and that he always was. He knew how to enjoy himself and the little things in life. Whether it was watching sports, working on a car (especially working on a car), going on a hike, making a delicious meal, face-timing with family or simply spending time with the ones he loved. He obtained a college degree in Automotive Mechanics Technology and was very proud of his education and persistence to accomplish anything he put his mind to. Jose later met the love of his life, Kawena while living on the Big Island of Hawaii. They then moved to Oahu, Hawaii where he pursued a new career with the Oahu Transit Service. Jose was easy-going and full of fun but he was also very tenacious and passionate, making every moment count: especially about the things and ones he loved: his daughter, his family, his friends, food, big trucks and “Small Girl”, his puppy. Jose overcame many obstacles in his life, especially when the odds were so great. When he put his mind to accomplishing something for himself and especially for others, he found a way to get it done. He proved a lot of people wrong and made everyone who had the pleasure of getting to know him proud. He was a warrior of life. We are forever grateful to have known Jose and to be loved, thought of, protected, and at times, scolded by him. They say God only takes a soul when they have learned to love life wholly and unconditionally. Jose sure did that. His bright, energetic and loving spirit will be missed but his memory will live on forever in those he loved. Jose is survived by his mother and step-father Sandra & Alfredo Saucedo, daughter Alicia-Leilani Ann Rodriguez, Brother Paul Avila, Fiance Kawena Fong & his puppy “Small Girl”.
