Raymond Leong Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

RAYMOND LEONG, 86, of Honolulu, passed away peacefully at home on April 21, 2022. Born on June 22, 1935 in Honokaa, Hawaii, son of Ah On and Ah Tai (Loo) Leong, he moved to Honolulu to study at the University of Hawaii. After graduating, he served in the U.S. Army as a Military Police officer in California. He returned to Honolulu and worked until he was 85 years old for the State Department of Taxation, the City and County of Honolulu, and the US Department of Agriculture. He also co-owned a restaurant for several years. Ray treasured his family and friends, and enjoyed “talking story” and laughing at jokes. Many people appreciated his respect for others and his warm hospitality. Ray encouraged his daughters to work hard, but to also to enjoy life. Although one of his grandsons described him as a “mellow dude”, Ray’s competitive nature would emerge when playing soccer in the house against his daughters. He felt that eating strawberry jello with vanilla ice cream, a dessert his mother served when he was growing up, was “almost like being in heaven.” Ray is survived by daughters, Karen Joy (James) Faran and Ann-Marie (Jeff) Almaraz; grandchildren James (Carla), Teagan, Raymond, Jake, and Brooke; great-grand-daughter Olea; siblings Sam, Ethel Tagawa, and Edmund; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents, wife Tuk Suk Kim "Suki", and siblings Robert, Amy Millwood, and Ellen Ching. Private services held at the National Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl. Donations may be made to a favorite charity of choice.
