Testimonials

We receive many letters and emails from the families we've served, thanking us for our caring ways. Their words warm our hearts, and speak to you of our professionalism, compassion, and the true value of the services we provide. We are forever grateful that our families have taken the time to write such kind words to us- during their time of loss.

We want to mahalo you for the professional care you afforded us at each step of our planning. Mia Cuarsisma was so well prepared when we arrived at her office that I didn't have to stress over anything. She made a painful process so easy. Danny Kapahu: He is a gem, a kind, loving and has so much aloha. He prepared my sister in law as if she were his own `ohana. I have had so many comments on how beautiful and peaceful she appeared to be. Someone took a photo and then deleted it out of respect to us. Danny and Mia arranged the flowers in the chapel very tastefully. Debra's portrait, set on a low table on an easel, was accented by two candles. I cannot thank you enough for making our service affordable and dignified. Aloha nui

Aloha Blanca, It means so much that you and Oahu Mortuary & Cemetery work so diligently to help us and other families who have suffered a loss. The Grief & Mourning section of your website has been a source of comfort to me, and while I know there are stages of grief, it is still so painful a loss. Thank you all for providing such a necessary and oftentimes overlooked service. Best to you and yours. Me ke Aloha Pumehana, Ruth

Our mom passed while on vacation in Hawaii. Her wish was to be cremated upon passing, and I was faced with arranging this while on the mainland and trying to cope with overwhelming grief. I called four or five other funeral homes that offer cremation services before calling Oahu Mortuary & Crematory. After about 2-3 minutes talking to Blanca, the managing director, I knew this was the place. She outlined all that needed to be done and finished up with something along the lines of: but you don't need to think about any of that. And she indeed followed through and made that happen with great efficiency, precision and thoroughness. Within minutes I had emails from her. Sign, scan, send with picture for identification - done. During a follow-up phone call she said "we will get mom here and under our care as quickly as possible". Again, she made it happen, along with obtaining a transit permit for mom's remains, sending a death certificate worksheet should I need it until the official certificate was received and providing lots of other useful information. It turned out that I did not need the worksheet because she somehow managed to work magic in getting the requested number of official certificates in a matter of days when I had been told by other sources that it can take anywhere from 4-12 weeks. True to my initial impression, Blanca proved to be a person who genuinely cares and was clearly dedicated to lifting as much of the burden from my shoulders as possible. As far as Oahu Mortuary & Crematory in general, all staff were warm and helpful and there was never any hint of upsell, price gouging, hidden costs or wide-ranging brackets with difficultly getting a precise cost. They are honest and transparent. Thank you Blanca and all staff who assisted. You have our deepest gratitude.

My family and I recently had our services held there. Upon arrival of preparing our arrangements, Blanca made us feel very comfortable, at ease, and welcomed during our time of grieve. Explaining and providing us the necessary information and cost (made within our means) made us so pleased. I will recommend friends and family to visit her and office staff in time of their needs. From the beginning of services until completion, everything turned out so beautiful, and memorable. And Blanca made it happen for us. To top it all, me, my brothers and sisters also have our grave site at Oahu Cemetery. Our parents are there and someday we'll be joining them. It's a serene place, maintaining the cemetery is well kept, we are so happy to know of where we'll be someday. Thank you all for your service, keep up the magnificent work. My mother recently passed away without funeral insurance. Her last wish was for a no-frills cremation and scattering of ashes, so I was a bit disappointed to find out that the Neptune Society does not operate in Honolulu. I checked a number of companies listed in Island Hospice's list of mortuaries and crematoriums, and then independently found Oahu C&C. I was attracted to their no-frills, direct cremation service- the least expensive of any service in Oahu. Despite my mother's clear wishes, I admit to having had some misgivings about choosing the lowest cost option. Didn't she really deserve better? Shouldn't I just spend another couple of hundred bucks to ensure a quality experience? Well, that is just the sort of guilt and second guessing the funeral industry relies upon to cross-sell/up-sell grieving families into unnecessary services and expensive products... Let me say this about our families' experience: from my first visit to their website and initial telephone enquiry, the retrieval of my mother's body from our home, to the visit with their funeral director and retrieval of my mother's remains, the Oahu C&C's staff were completely transparent and professional. No attempt was made to up-sell us on urns or additional services, and they handled my grieving stepfather very gently. After cremation, my mother's remains were returned in a tasteful plastic container and carrying bag. From beginning to end, Oahu C&C was a class act. I wholeheartedly recommend them to your family. - The Jackson / Engle families

Blanca, I hope this email finds you well. It was one year ago today that Rick, Jan, and I sat in your office about taking care of our brother Jerry. You said that you are an advocate to the family and that you will do what it takes to help us. And you did just that!! :) As I give special thought to my brother during this week, I have to include you in the overall picture. You were a God-send to our family during a very difficult time. But I'm sure it's not just to our family, but to others as well. You meet families everyday, usually at their lowest, most painful moment. Yet you have a way of bringing a calm and peace to a very difficult situation. You are a blessing to families and an important person in your company. Just to give you a frame of reference, here is a picture of Rick, myself, Jerry, Jan, and our brother Joe. Thank you for being a blessing to our family and to several others that you encounter each week.

I want to tell you how much it meant to have you take care of Mary Lynn and our family the way you did. I was very sad to not be able to be there, but I felt comforted by the manner in which everything was handled. The Celebration Memorial was beautifully done, and people sent a lot of pictures. Daughters Lee Ann and Karly went out on a friend of Jacque's sailboat to spread some of her ashes and have a "toast" to her--Lee Ann called me from the boat, and it sounded as though they were having a very good time!!! Both girls will come to Iowa City for a Memorial, and the rest of her ashes will be put to rest next to her father. Thank you so very much - Helen.

Dear Sandee, thank you & the people you work with for your compassionate cooperation. How interesting that you knew of Doug, my dear son. He was a decent human being - so knowledgeable, so talented & creative and so giving & forgiving. He has left a lot of beautiful "landmarks" in Hawaii, California & Pennsylvania - he was a master craftsman!

The Chock 'ohana is so grateful to all the folks at Oahu Cemetery and Mortuary for helping with the memorial services for my brother Robert. It's not just about how inexpensive it is compared to other places. All the staff were courteous, kind, and helpful. Full of aloha from the moment I called Miki until we were pau cleaning up and said goodbye to David last night. I never felt like a number or a "prospect" for "profit." A gem that may be overlooked, I highly recommend them. Mahalo nui.

We are from the mainland and came to the island to make final preparations for our brother. Blanca assisted us in the cremation process. Words can't describe the blessing that she was to our family. She referred to herself as an "advocate for the family". We refer to her as a "friend to our family". In every contact with her we did not feel like a customer. We felt valued and respected by her. Her heart is definitely in her job. It was obvious that she genuinely cared about the pain that we were experiencing. Her hugs and sincerity gave us the assurance that we weren't just a file sitting on her desk to be completed She went above and beyond what we could have expected given our circumstances. She even called me a couple of weeks later to check on us. That spoke volumes to her genuine care for us. Our family will always be grateful, not just for the service that she provided, but for the personal touch she gave us in our time of grief. I wholeheartedly recommend Oahu Mortuary and Crematory!! Blanca is the main reason for this. You will not be disappointed.

When you're in the middle of grieving, and you have to make that painful phone call to choose what to do with your loved one's remains, you can only hope that someone as empathic and kind as Blanca from Oahu Mortuary answers your call. Oahu Mortuary has provided my family with the guidance and compassion that only the finest professionals could manage. No one wants to think about losing a loved one, but when this happens, you'll want (and probably need) the support of staff like those at Oahu Mortuary. If you find yourself having to make arrangements for your loved one, call them....you'll be glad you did.
